Is Pokémon Queerphobic?

 Could Pokémon Possibly Be Queerphobic?

Note: I do not intend to hate on Pokémon, simply stating this from my perspective.

From My Experience...

From my experience, when I was playing on my DS on a nice Saturday afternoon, I was battling a Bidoof, quite a cute one, and I realized one of my Pokémon (I cannot recall which one) had this move called "attract." From the years I grew up on Pokémon, I can remember what this move did. It made the opposing Pokémon fall in love with you, paralyzing them until the other Pokémon is returned or defeated.

Picture is not mine.

But then, why, does this only work on the opposite gender? I just then realized how many childhood things I grew up on weren't actually 1000% children-friendly nor clean. Childhood (kinda?) ruined. So, basically homophobic. This is probably the straightest thing in all of video game history. And as a Bisexual person myself, I was quite surprised. Now, re-reading this I am probably overreacting. Like a lot. Don't get me wrong, please, I'm actually not that kind of person who, as my grandmother would say, "nit-picks at every little detail," I only just get kind of infuriated when I see something the slightest queerphobic. The whole purpose of this article is to help people understand the problems of our past, not to tell everyone to nitpick everything. Now, to continue...

 What is Queerphobic?

To explain what I mean, I think it would be best to clear the subject; "What is queerphobic?" Queer is an umbrella term to describe LGBTQ+ people of any sexuality. Still don't understand? LGBTQ+ is an acronym for; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Plus. Lesbian is a word for a female who is attracted to other females, and gay is usually a word for a male who is attracted to males, but sometimes it can be gender-neutral. Bisexual is the term for a person (of any gender) who is attracted to more than one gender. Trans is a gender describing word rather than a term to describe attraction. It means a person who was born a female at birth who rather prefers to be classified as a male, a male who wants to be classified as a female, or a male/female who prefers no gender classification. Make sense? Now to the question; "What is Queerphobia?" Queerphobia is a term used to describe people who are against the LGBTQ+ community for whatever reason no one understands. They speak their own language, which is stupid, so I am unable to understand them. If you believe you understand stupid, please let me know what they are saying.

So Is There Anything Else Queerphobic in Pokémon?

Yes, actually.
  • At the beginning of every Pokémon game ever (besides ones like Pokémon Dungeons or the square one), the professor of the game asks you, "Are you a boy or are you a girl?" This completely ignore the population of they/them trans people. I mean if you are trans you can just chose whichever one you are attracted to but I mean...still...

  • No LGBTQ+ couples! None! How sad... If you are a boy NPC, you are looking to get all the chicks, but if you are a girl NPC, you hope you get a boyfriend someday! This is just quite sad, really.
So really there isn't a lot, and none of these look intentional, and I doubt they are. If I am missing something from this list please let me know. If I have false information let me know. Thanks!
